Details

The Bosch HDS183-02 18V EC Brushless Compact Tough 1/2 in. Hammer Drill Driver features KickBack Control, Bosch's integrated acceleration sensor that automatically shuts the tool down when a potentially dangerous rotational torque reaction occurs in a bind-up scenario. This reduces the risk of sudden tool reactions in binding conditions. The tool is engineered with an upgraded, heavy-duty all-metal chuck that allows for increased robustness and torque transfer. With an efficient EC Brushless motor, this drill/driver provides longer tool life as well as great runtime. One of Bosch's Compact Tough designs, it has a short head-length and light weight but plenty of muscle. It delivers a powerful performance, with 531 in-lbs. of torque, two drilling speeds (0-1,900 RPM for high speed and 0-600 RPM for high torque), an impact rate of 28,500 BPM for masonry applications and 20+1 precision clutch settings for reduced fastener damage. This tool provides an ergonomic grip zone and Bosch's Electronic Motor Protection and Electronic Cell Protection, to protect the tool and batteries from overload and overheating. It includes a long belt clip for a secure hold. The kit includes two 18V 2.0 Ah SlimPack batteries and a charger.

Great compact hammer drill
Super smooth drilling, long lasting battery. Compared to the previous generation (HDS182) model, the HDS183 have improved ergonomic rubber grip, new kick-back control feature that stops drill on a sudden twist of the wrist during a jam, a full metal chuck, and the new drill is more compact (slightly)

Also love the free rotating front collar that prevents the chuck from getting scratched when drilling near a corner or at tight spaces.

The included charger is a normal speed charger (Model # BC660) and not the fast charger (BC1880), this charger charges a 2 ah battery in about 60 min, while the fast charger can charge a 2.0 ah battery in less than 30 min.

Hammer action is good for small hole drilling in concrete. If you need to carve or chisel large holes in concrete, consider getting a rotary hammer instead.

This is a compact drill for great mobility, and reduced fatigue (only weighs 3.5lb with 2 ah battery) thus some toughness is sacrificed to save weight (like the torque adjusting collar and mode selection collar is made of plastic instead of metal)

I have used a couple different manufacturer's hammer drills at work and this bosch is the easiest and lightest one I have used. I love this tool and the battery alwas keeps a charge after months of no use.

The HDS183 amazed me. It is light weight and its wood drilling performance shines through. How do I know? I am building a Paulk Compact Workbench and used this new drill to drill approximately 180 20mm dog holes through 3/4 inch solid core pine wood using a forstner bit. I marked the holes, punched the center for alignment, and begin drilling the holes, back to back, essentially non-stop. The Bosch HDS183's performance was impressive - I used the standard "drill" setting and high speed setting. Simply amazing. I have not used the hammer drill setting yet, so, I can't comment at this time on that setting. I also like the updated zipper bag compared to the older one - both have their benefits, this one has a larger capacity to fit more accessories, including the charger, and is easier to carry with the larger carrying handles.
