The BOSTITCH BTFP71917 Smart Point 16-Gauge Finish Nailer Kit is designed to drive finish nails from 1-1/4 in. to 2-1/2 in. length. This nailer features Smart Point Technology: Easy nail placement as a result of a smaller nose compared to current BOSTITCH nailers and no need to compress the contact trip to actuate the tool. This unit also features oil-free operation which reduces the risk of oil stains. The tool-free jam release mechanism allows for easy nail removal, and Dial-A-Depth control allows for precise countersinking of nails. It also has a selectable trigger system for either sequential or contact operation depending on your choice of operation. I would buy this product again in a heart beat!
Perfect tool for light to medium projects requiring a nail gun. I have run about 800 nails of different sizes through the gun......no jambs. Great tool.

Compared to the other brad nailers I have used in the past this one far out performes them all, easy to see the brad set and never jambs. I am very very pleased with this product.

A vast improvement from the conventional.
It would be perfect if the on board pencil sharpener actually worked. It just snaps the lead off. Otherwise it is great. The smart point tip is a huge improvment from the old plunger tips. The bottom exhaust stops the gun from blowing dust into your eyes. I haven't had it long, but I've never been dissapointed by a bostich product before.

The right tool for the job
I bought this nail gun to install tongue and groove planks to a cathedral ceiling. It worked better than another gun I have because I could easily and accurately position nails in the tongues of the planks. I've only used the gun for a few hundred nails so far, but there have been no jams or other problems. The belt hook and pencil sharpener have not been used and I thinks they might be superfluous.

Nice Tool
Have had a lot of air tools in 30 years love the no pressure point on this tool. Coming from a paslode history we'll see how well it holds up to shooting over 1000 nails or more a day.

Great Gun
Sets nails perfect every time even in old hard oak.
But why would anyone want a bump fire feature in a finish gun? Just something else to go wrong.
It's a little strange at fist as I'm use to pressing a spring-loaded tip against the stock to arm the gun. This has no spring. When you start to squeeze the trigger it projects a little 'feeler' to make sure the stock is against the nose.

Great gun with solid features
I've had many trim nailers over the years but this one is the best by far. It's light, balanced, and easy to load and unload which are the requirements for a good gun. But it gets better; the adjustments give a great range of control for bump fire and depth, it has a pencil sharpener on it (!) and the exhaust air is vented out bottom of the magazine.

Right size for the job
I am happy with the tool. I used it to do all the trip in my house and it performed great. I have an 18 gauge and 15 gauge Bostitch but I found this unit seemed to work best for trim work. It is also nice that it is oil less and not to worry about having to do that task.

Refurbished but looked brand new
The item looked brand new. Could not even tell that it was refurbished. Works great. No jams. Easy depth adjustment and drives nails consistently.

Not exactly sure how the jam release mechanism releases and how it works overall. The tech manual does not do a good job.

BEST ANSWER: Here are the full instructions on clearing a jam:

1. Disconnect the tool from the air supply.
2. Release the pusher so it is no longer applying force to the nail sticks.
3. Open the jam clearing nose door by pulling down and then up on the latch.
4. Remove the jammed fastener. In certain circumstances, pliers may be required to remove the fastener.
5. Close the jam clearing nose door latch.
6. Pull nail pusher back behind nail sticks.
7. Perform tool operation check.

New Vs. Reconditioned

What's the difference between New and Factory-Reconditioned?

Factory-Reconditioned products have been returned to the manufacturer and are restored to like-new operating condition; they go through a rigorous testing and inspection process. Plus, they offer a significant savings vs. new.
  • Reconditioned products may have minor cosmetic blemishes or scratches that do not affect item performance.
  • Reconditioned products may not come with all of the consumables the new version comes with (bits, sanding pads/papers, cases, etc.).
  • Both come with a manufacturer warranty and are covered by our Money Back Guarantee; New is 30 days, Reconditioned is 60 days.
