I had this in a 4000, used one time and cannot open. I have taken it out of the 4000 and driven the drill out from the back. I have placed it in 6' vice and using a wrench cannot get it open ... it is frozen shut!

Same problem as Esteban
I have one on a 3000 with a steel brush and it will not come off, even the Home depot guy could not get it to open. It was hand tightened only. I had been using it previously for several different tools with no issues but this time it will not budge. Cant even get the chuck off the 3000. I had to buy an new 3000 tool to finish my work. I have used Dremel tool for years BTW.

Doesn't work on 4200
I just bought the 4486 chuck for my brand new 4200 dremel, hoping that I could start using bits smaller than 1/8. I can't figure out how it fits. I don't think it does. I'm beginning to think I can't use bits smaller than 1/8 in this dremel. If that's the case I'd like to have known that before I bought it.
Frustrated.

Great while it worked, chuck #4486
I used this for a while with no problems but now it's useless. The jaws inside don't close evenly to hold the shaft centered. After reading the negative reviews I don't think I want to buy a replacement. They're like $9.85 at lowes.
Have the problems with these been addressed?

same problem as others
I bought this a couple months ago and really needed it to speed up my work. It was ok for a very short time, then as I was drilling the grip would loosen up and the bit would fall out (if I was able to slow it down quickly enough and saw that it was loosening--otherwise it would fly out. Then I would try to adjust it and it would seize up. This slowed me down so much. Finally I'd get it off, but it was a huge effort getting a bit back in and tighten it. It was a vicious cycle, so I just gave up. If it had worked, it would have been great, so now I've given up on this "time-saving" device.:(

Not the only one
One of the these came with my Model 395 years ago. When I started having problems with it, I found that the jaws back down directly on the motor shaft, and were gouging the end of the shaft. Unless they have corrected this since then, it should not be used.

will it fit my model 375 ?
Al on Apr 9, 2013
BEST ANSWER: No, this chuck will not fit on the 375.
I have a chuck that I got a long while back but can not figure out how to make it work. Maybe something is missing. What pushes the 3 section grippers forward and back? Mine has the outer part, the three piece grippers and an end cap that attaches to the dremel.

Is something missing?

thanks,
John
John on Oct 29, 2012
BEST ANSWER: You have to twist the chuck to the left to open the grip and to the right to tighten.
