I have a Generac 7000 w,(running)generator. I also have a propane furnace with a fan blower, all of which is powered by 120 volt. Last week we lost power for 24 hours with 12" of snow. So I started my new generator and then plugged the cord from my furnace into a long, but heavy cord attached to the generator... The fan came on, the igniter came on, and then gas came in an ignited, but for only 2 seconds, after which it cut off. Tried several times with same result. When power came back on I plugged into the original outlet and everything worked fine. I then grounded the generator(with 8 ft copper rod) which should have been done originally. When I tried once again the same scenario happened. The furnace is a Rheem, Criterion II, that was installed in 1998. Need help on this one.

BEST ANSWER: Please contact Generac directly for technical support at 888-436-3722.
I have a Generac generator, that is both propane and gas, and rated at 7000 running Kw. I do not want an automatic switch, but rather a mechanical switch, to allow me to manually start the generator, shut down the main power switch, and then to select which circuits I want to power, which would change from time to time, depending on my immediate need. For example from time to time I would power up my well, which is 17 amp running and 3 times that peak. I was assured that this generator could run my well, however, I am aware I would not want much other load on when it is to run.. Again, I am not looking for whole house, or auto on.. but a switch that is safe and controllable. Also, as is the case with 99.9% of all breaker boxes in the west, mine is outside, for what insane purpose I do not know. My question, can a switch such as I am looking for be mounted inside my garage by installing next to the breaker box, but turning it to the inside not leaving it exposed outside. Gene

BEST ANSWER: The transfer switch is called a "manual transfer switch". We would recommend model 6294. We would also recommend contacting Generac directly for additional tech related support.
