Worked terrific until it quit
It was easy to install and worked perfectly until it quit working after 2 months. But the good news is that CPO Outlets and REEM were awesome to work with for a replacement unit. The heating elements were defective. I would not hesitate to buy this again.

Watch your step!
CPO does not accept returns on tankless water heaters unless it is defective, so do the math first! Will it heat your water enough? Great product, if it's the right one for your situation! The ground water was too cold here in Vermont.

Nice unit for small bathroom
The unit arrived in a timely manner in good shape. Read the instructions and gathered material and had installed in less than an hour. Flushed the unit, powered up and it worked like a champ. More than enough hot water for a shower and vanity. These tankless units are long overdue to be installed in every home.

Good water heater, fairly cheap price.
Good little water heater. Takes a minute or two to get itself adjusted to a constant temp, but once it does it's pretty great. It gets hot as hell if adjusted too high, be careful.

Can this heat water if the groundwater is very cold in Pittsburgh winters? Does it get hot enough for the kitchen sink needs, such as cleaning dishes?
naacmail on Nov 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This is based on the amount of heat the unit can produce which is calculated with BTU If these know what they are doing the can take any supply water temperature and calculate how many BTtU it will, take to heat a given volume of water to a specific temptress. This is not rocket science and I for one can't understand why they do not have this Connor chart available on this site. It helps if every unit told the voltage each electric unit power supply is ti use. Go to Home Depot and they will give you the answers you need, while you are there pay for the service they provide if they earn your business.. Just saying there is not enough information for the technology they are selling, in stead it sounds like all the room buildings condos restaurants or what ever at on the same block in dream land using the same water supply. I'm just sayin This sight is cumbersome
Can this be installed using hot water to supply it? I'm assuming sensor would know when to activate to heat water if needed, and shut off if water temp is hot enough.
Carl on Jul 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, this unit can be installed with a hot water line supplying it.

I'm thinking about getting one for an RV . Can it run off of a 2000 watt generator? I do not intend to run it more than 10 to 15 minutes at a time and no more than 5 gallons at any one time.
A shopper on Oct 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The unit draws 9,000 watts of electric to operate. It will not operate from your 2,000 watt generator.
I currently have a gas water heater, and would like to go electric. My question is, can I use one of these in a mobile home and can I use 120 power, instead of 240 power?
TL on Aug 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The RTE-9 will require 220v. The only water heater offered that is capable of running on 120v is a model RTE-3. Unfortunately, model RTE-3 does not put out enough gallons per minute to handle a shower.
Would this unit work 4 hot water in a kitchen sink, a bathroom sink, and a bathtub/shower? but not used all at the same time or can it only be hooked up to one thing thank you for a prompt response

how many volts does this unit use?
Joseph on Nov 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This model is 240 volt.
The diagrams that come with this product have a chart for deciding what kw unit matches up to what application; with a ground water of 70 degree's F and a flow rate of 2gpm, the recommendation is 7kw. BUT, at the bottom of the chart it says "recommendations based on hot water outlet temp of 105 degree F". I'm confused. If my water reaching the unit was already 105 degree's, then why would i be buying this unit? the water reaching my unit will be much lower (80's). will this unit still work for me?
BigDan on Nov 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The diagram is showing the ground water temp and giving degree rise based on that, these units are not usually used in conjunction with another water heater supplying already heated water to it. If the ground water temp to your unit is 80 degrees then the flow rate will be higher (near 3 gpm) since the unit will not have to work as hard to heat the water to the desired temp.
On the last page of the user manual there are several diagrams; one diagram says the flow rate in gpm is 1.5 for a kitchen sink faucet. I'm confused about this diagram. is it saying that this unit reduces the gpm of a kitchen faucet to 1.5? because the average fpm of a kitchen faucet is 2.2 in the USA, correct?hanks

link to diagram: http://cdn.globalimageserver.com/fetchdocument-rh.aspx?name=rte-9-tankless-electric-spec-sheet
BigDan on Nov 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Every kitchen sinks gpm is going to vary. The average sink ranges from 1.5-2 gpm
110v or240v
Adnan on Oct 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The RTE-9 is 240v.
What are the basic usage qualifications for this unit? I am trying to replace a whole house unit in a 1 bath home. I am seeing answers that say, NO don't use it for showering and then right below it one says, yes you can. Both staff expert answers. Can I get some clarification? Also, how wide is the unit from pipe fitting to pipe fitting and I will be replacing my existing on demand hot water heater.
Mysti on Jul 31, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The RTE-9 provides a best case scenario of 3 GPM. That flow rate is only achieved when the unit does the least amount of heating needed to meet the desired temp. A shower usually takes about 2 GPM but as the degree rise is increased the flow rate decreases. Long story short is, this unit will struggle to provide hot water to a shower once a 45 degree rise is needed. So, if the city water coming in is 45 to the unit, and the unit heats it another 45 degrees to meet the demanded temp, it will not be able to maintain a flow rate needed for a shower.
Would this unit work in an rv. Now I have lp gas for the water heater looking for hot water for the shower thanks
granville on Jun 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This is a fully electric tankless water heater. It will be sufficient enough for a shower. You just need to have a 240V outlet and a 40 amp breaker available to get this item to work.
SO THIS WOULD BE CONSIDERED A WHOLE HOUSE UNIT?
C. BELL on Apr 11, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No,this unit is a point of use only water heater. It runs a shower or a sink only.
Will this unit work fir a shower ??
CCB on Feb 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I would not recommend that unit for a shower.
Does this unit consume any power when it is on standby? Or do the heating elements only come on when the hot water tap is open?

Thank you.
Erw on Jan 31, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The RTE-9 has a minimum activation flow rate of .40gpm

HOW TO OBTAIN WARRANTY CLAIM ASSISTANCE

Any claim for warranty assistance must be made promptly. First, determine if your water heater is “in-warranty” (that is, within the Applicable Warranty Period). You can determine your unit's warranty status by adding its Applicable Warranty Period to its date of installation. However, if you do not have documentary proof of your water heater's date of installation, your unit's warranty status will be based on its date of manufacture. The first four digits of the unit's serial number represent the month and year it was manufactured. Add the Applicable Warranty Period plus ninety (90) days to the date of manufacture to determine whether the water heater is still covered by this Limited Warranty. You may also determine your unit's warranty status by obtaining the complete model number, complete serial number, and date of installation of your water heater and then accessing the “Warranty Verification” information on Rheem Water Heaters' internet website (www.rheem.com) or contacting Rheem Water Heaters' Claims Department (telephone (800) 621-5622) during normal business hours (in the Central Time Zone) to determine if the Applicable Warranty Period has expired. If your water heater is “in-warranty”, contact the plumber, or mechanical contractor, that installed it for assistance with the warranty repairs, or replacement, required. You may also select a plumber, or mechanical contractor, from your local Yellow Pages to assist you. Rheem Water Heaters' Technical Service personnel are available to assist you (by telephone at (800) 432-8373 or via e-mail at techserv@rheem.com) in obtaining “in-warranty” service or to answer your questions about the operation or repair of your water heater during normal business hours (in the Central Time Zone). Be prepared to provide the plumber, mechanical contractor, or Rheem Technical Service person you call with the complete model number, the complete serial number, and the date of installation of your water heater in addition to an explanation of your water heater problem. If an exact replacement is not available, Rheem will provide you with the current model of your water heater, or component part(s), or a replacement unit with comparable operating features. If government regulations or industry certification or similar standards require the replacement water heater, or replacement component part(s), to have features not found in the defective water heater, or the defective component part(s), you will be charged for the difference in price represented by those required features. If you pay the price difference for those required features and/or to upgrade the size and/or other features available on a replacement new water heater, you will also receive a complete new Limited Warranty (with the full Applicable Warranty Periods) for the replacement new water heater. Rheem reserves the right to inspect, or require the return of, the failed water heater or the defective component part(s). Each “in-warranty” failure water heater must be made available to Rheem (with the rating label and all the component parts intact) in exchange for the replacement water heater. Each defective “in-warranty” component part to be replaced must be returned to Rheem in exchange for the replacement component part. Warranty compensation is subject to validation of “in-warranty” coverage by Rheem Claims Department personnel.

  • To obtain warranty compensation for an “in-warranty” water heater failure, you must provide Rheem with: (at Rheem's option) either the failed water heater (with the rating label and all the component parts intact) or the complete original rating label (photocopies are not acceptable) removed from the failed water heater; the complete model number and the complete serial number of the Rheem or Ruud water heater that replaced the failed unit; and the date the original water heater failed. You may also be required to provide documentary proof of the failed water heater's date of installation to establish its “in-warranty” status.
  • To receive warranty compensation for an “in-warranty” defective component part, you must provide Rheem with: the defective component part; the complete model number and the complete serial number of the Rheem or Ruud water heater from which the defective component part was removed; and the date the defective component part failed. You may also be required to provide documentary proof of the date of installation of the Rheem or Ruud water heater from which the defective part was removed — or the date of purchase of the part (if it was purchased separately) — to establish the “in-warranty” status of the defective component part.
Warranty claim documentation should be mailed promptly to
