Broke After Only One Year
I bought it last summer and it worked fine, this summer the spring mechanism that feeds the spool broke making it completely useless. I used to trust black and decker but their products just don't last anymore, i'm switching to a new brand.

Short Operating Life
I originally bought this B&D string trimmer in August, 2016 at HD. The unit lasted 12 months until August 2017 when the motor burned out. HD replaced the trimmer under warranty. Now, the replacement unit is dead. The upper motor bearing failed. This unit managed to live 13 months, but since the warranty period is from the original purchase, I'm out of luck. Even a middle-of-the-road quality bearing should have lasted longer than this. And since B&D doesn't sell replacement bearings (or motor assemblies for that matter I can either try to size and locate a new bearing, or replace the trimmer altogether. Poor quality unit.

Cheap and easy to use
I had B&D Grasshog for 20 year and it broke 1 months ago because the string spool control lever broken (plastic. I called B&D service center and they did not carry the part any more. Therefore I went to Walmart to purchase this string trimmer for $30 (Home Depot sells it for $49). It performs as good as my original Grasshog.

I am pausing my yard work to write this review, that’s how irritated I am. After months of trying and failing to rig our 3+ year old $30 weed eater, I finally called it quits today and packed up the babies to head to Home Depot. Our previous weed eater was the bottom-of-the-line model, and with a growing family our budget for lawn care is almost nonexistent. So while I was scanning the aisles, I decided to go up a model/price point thinking the quality would be reflected. Turns out you’re paying $50 for the Black + Decker logo and nothing else. Not 10 minutes after returning home and attempting to trim the edge of our lawn (row home, mind you) the spool of string was exhausted! WE JUST OPENED THE BOX. We do not live in the jungle, we did not attempt to chop a redwood down with this weed eater, we were cutting GRASS. By far the most useless purchase I’ve ever made, and I used to own a Snuggie. I will never recommend a Black + Decker product to anyone, all over a $50 weed eater. Well done.

String eater
I bought this weed eater last summer to trim the edge of grass next to the fence. It works great except the fact that I have to replace the string every 10 foot or so. Yesterday I edged by the sidewalk and the fence and rewound the string 11 times. Should have taken me 30 minutes but took me 2 hours, and another hour to pick up hundreds of 2” pieces of blue string from the yard. contacted black+decker. They told me to take to an authorized service center. The service center told me it was not a warranty issue and to buy a new spool. By the time I jump through hoops the warranty period will be up. Would not recommend buying this product

I’m on my second one! No, I didn’t expect it to last forever and I’m not disappointed at all. This trimmer produced more work for me than the average trimmer ever sees, due to my unusual application. When the first one quit, I took it apart to see why, it was worn out. I wore it out, period. I went to buy another one just like it and couldn’t find one so I bought the next model with the top motor and curved shaft. Soooo disappointed with that one that I immediately kept looking and found the one that I’m talking about here, the straight shaft, corded, 14”, telescopic handle, with guide wheel and flip it 180 degrees for trimmer function. Please don’t ever stop making this one. I even thought of buying two more now, so I can have spares as I I wear them out.

Iffy at best.
Thing works great if you have an infinite amount of line available. Automatically feeds when it shouldn’t. Runs out of line way too fast.

2nd one lasted longer than 1st
This is the 2nd B & D string trimmer I have owned, the first died in less than a year and this one lasted two years. I purchased the 2 year protection plan from Lowes and am trying to get yet another replacement. Between the two, Im soooo disappointed in B & D for their low, low quality of their products, and also to Lowes for their lack of knowledge of product warranty as well as their own replacement plans that they offer. I will stick with purchasing other brands at Home Depot.
