Product Overview

Bosch revolutionized their technology with the 1297D 1/4 in. Sheet Orbital Finish Sander by making it quick and easy to load sandpaper on the deck. By Integrating their Sheetlock sandpaper attachment system, the user can pen the front and rear rubberized paper clamps, insert the edge of the paper in the front, wrap and clamp. What sets the 1297D apart from any other technology out there is that as the rear clamp closes, it pulls the sandpaper taut and flat against the bed. This vital development prevents wrinkles, creases and tears which increases the life of sandpaper without having to pay double the cost for stick on paper.
  • 2.0 amp motor, 12,000 OPM ensures fast, smooth results on all surfaces
  • Rubberized paper clamps for firm no-slip grip
  • Accepts stick-on paper
  • Bosch microfiler dust canister with integrated paper filter for optimal filtering system of fine dust by capturing particles as small as a 1/2-micron
  • 3-point counterbalance for low vibration for maximum comfort
  • Ergonomic soft grip top for comfort and control
  • Flush sanding ability sands close to vertical surfaces on three sides
  • Dust sealed rocker switch keeps dust out and provides easy on/off actuation
  • All ball bearing construction offers long life and smooth operation

Wonderful sander. Light. Easy to handle.
I have had this sander since April 2012. I have made almost 200 cutting boards, a rocking chair, a side cabinet, a murphy bed with two side cabinets, a Franklin Chair, and numerous other crafts. Finally, the front rubber clamp cover won't stay on. Just went on Bosch site, found it ordered it for a reasonable price and shipping price. Good dust collection; easy to change paper.

Great sander. Easy to load paper which is securely held. Fits my hand well. Runs very quietly, unlike previously used screamers.

Didn't last
I initially I loved this product, worked great and held the sheet tight. However after using it for a few jobs it sanded down the rubber on the rear clamp, and no longer holds a sheet of sandpaper.

The rear clamp needs to be redesigned.

I like the quiet operation. I especially like the paper fastening system. It is quick and easy to change the paper, and doesn't come loose.

Very happy with my new palm sander
This is the first Bosch sander that I have owned. I was immediately impressed
with the paper lock. It is very comfortable to handle with excellent orbit and minimum vibration. I would certainly recommend this tool to the professional as
well as the home woodworking enthusiast.

Great Funishing Sander
This sander has some outstanding features. First and perhaps most important, is that Bosch has figured out how to greatly reduce the vibration when the power is on. Your hand and arm doesn't have a stinging feeling when powered off. The sandpaper mounting system is very easy to use and can a quarter sheet can be changed quickly. I haven't had the issue with the sandpaper holders at each end of the pad, but can certainly understand how the plastic rolls can wear out quickly. Although this is a random orbital sander, it does not leave the telltale small swirl pattern that other sanders leave. This means I can quickly move to finishing my project with minimal hand sanding. The option filter systems control the dust very well. The switch is mounted in a convenient location and is easily turned off and on as needed. I have other finishing sanders, manufactured by well known companies, but prefer and do use this one almost exclusively.
