Bosch MRC23EVSK Modular Router System

Details
The Bosch MRC23EVSK 2.3 HP Electronic Modular Router System is an advanced set-up that provides a fixed base and a plunge base for the MR23EVS router. This system allows for outstanding operator control, with the trigger-control system that has a power switch in both the plunge-base's and the fixed-base's handle. The plunge base's Afterlock microfine bit-depth adjustment at any plunge setting allows for precision, with an adjustable turret stop makes it easy to set any cumulative depth. With a smooth plunge action and a spring-lock plunge lever, this router gets accurate results. The fixed base has microfine bit-depth adjustment, with a continuous depth range of 1-5/8 in., allowing for accurate and fast changes, while its precision-centering design allows the bit to be centered with the sub-base or optional template guides. The router has a 15-amp motor and adjustable speed settings. The variable-speed dial allows the operator to match the speed to the material. Constant Response circuitry delivers a constant speed throughout the cut. Users can glide along the intended cutline using dovetail fixtures, templates, jigs and other guidance devices.

Great features
In the past I've always dropped the bit into the work or drilled a hole first. Being able to use the plunge is so much easier and safer. The handles with the on/off switch in them is simply a great idea. I never did like having to let go of one of the handles in order to turn the router off. My previous router only had one speed so I'm seeing that the different speeds really makes a difference with different bits. There's nothing that I can't do with this unit.

Power switch on grip makes a lot of difference.
Bought it use along with DeWalt dw618 which stays in router table.

mr23 is way better than DeWalt for hand held use. No more removing hands from grip to turn router off.

Depth adjustment is accurate. Unlike DeWalt no more hit and miss adjustment. Fine depth adjustment makes a big difference.

Love that bit change requires 2 wrench. With DeWalt you have to keep pressing a button to lock collet and then use wrench. Two wrench makes a difference. It's convenient.

On bad side. Cord cannot be removed. This make storage inconvenient.

Overall it's a good purchase.

Nice router but has a few problems for the money..
There are two issues I have found with this router, one is that the brushes do not last as long as I expected. Maybe this is due to the power output, but I didn't get a lot of time on mine before it quit. A new pair of brushes and it was back on line good as new.
The other issue is chips and sawdust getting up into the hollow of the handle with the switch. If enough sawdust and chips get packed in there tight enough it will impede on the switch and cause the router to either run intermittently or not at all until you take it apart and clean out all the saw dust.
Having owned and enjoyed many Bosch tools in my time I guess I just expected more from this machine. Those two issues aside {kinda difficult to do at this point} it is a fantastic router with plenty of power, very easy and dead accurate adjustments, not as loud as most and very ergonomic to use.

Great tool but...
I bought this tool through amazon, took about a week to arrive even though it was prime. When it arrived I immediately tested it as I was excited to finally receive it. I was very disappointed to find that the plunge feature was very sticky in both directions. To plunge down I had to use a lot of force that when it would finally plunge, it would plunge with a lot of force. Then to get it to release back up, I would have to pull hard to get it to come back up. I sent that one back and amazon sent me another... 5 more days for it to arrive.

The second Router was much better but it is still a little sticky, again in both directions. Sometimes it’s very fluid to use in either direction but sometimes it’ll stick when trying to plunge that again, I’ll have to use some force. And sometimes, usually when it’s all the way plunged that I’ll have to pull it up. I was frustrated because I only have had it for a few days and only tested it once. I talked with Bosch and they suggested to buy lube. I’m frustrated that it’s a brand new tool and I already have to maintain it.

When it works, it works fantastic!

Dual Base sold me
I bought this base after my old router (another brand burned up. While at the store looking at other models I saw this and it has everything I was looking for. The fixed and plunge base, variable speed, LED lights, two collets and available dust collection, low contoured handles with the trigger in handle.
I saw some poor reviews on the quality of the dust collection parts and possible cracking so I just purchased an aftermarket brand that is polycarbonate and have had no issues with it. It cuts down on 95% of the chips that would otherwise require cleanup! I can use the fixed base in my router table and the plunge base for everything else. I sprayed the posts on the plunge mechanism with TopCote and it works smooth as glass, no sticking or tight spots! The quick release lever allows easy removal for access to the collet for changing bits easily. And the innovative cord attachment looks like it should provide years of service without getting the cord end damaged where it goes into the motor, Great Idea!
The case is huge but should fit anything you need for using the router. I won't need the case as I will not travel with the router so it was not an issue either way.

Not good at all
I bought this for the flexibility and based on all of the other reviews. They all must have a different router from me. The plunge mechanism sticks EVERY time so I have to place it on the side and pry it back to the up position. The fixed base adjustment does not work at all in the router table. I have to open up the table and push it up and then lock it down. This is a miserable time consuming process to get the exact cut height. When the adjustment is locked it is a real chore to unlock the latch to remove or adjust the router in the fixed base. I bought this to replace a 25 year old DeWalt that burned up after nearly daily work and regret this purchase every time I use it.

Great router but...
It is a great router for both the plunge and the fixed base. The only complaint I’ve got and it’s kind of a big one is that the release to remove the motor out of the fixed is really difficult to unlatch. I’m not a small guy and to open that latch almost requires a screwdriver!! I have not checked the manual to see if there’s an adjustment. guess I should contact Bosch about the problem. It also would have been nice if there was a lock button when changing the bit instead having to maneuver two wrenches. All that said, great router!

A sweet working machine. The Bosch engineers really did their homework before designing this one. One of the only routers with the switch in the handle, which allows a firm hold throughout each cut.

Does it come with a guide fence? If not can you get one?
Bob D on Sep 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It does not come with a guide fence. One is available. Check to see if the RA1054 that CPO carries fits the MRP/MRF 23EVSK. I think it does.
is the Porter Cable bushing kit compatible with this router?
Steve on Dec 22, 2014
BEST ANSWER: No,each brand is proprietary to its own brand.
