Essential when you need it
Years ago, my brother came home, after Dad sent him to the parts store for something we were working on, with one of these. Dad thought it was a crazy waste of money, but, after it solved the problem he was struggling with on that project and he used it for other things, he stopped saying it.

You don't need pliers this big often; but, when you do, not much else will do the job. And Channellock pliers are just about unkillable.
