Great for tight spaces
Powerful drill that is great for tight spaces. The 1/2" is perfect for large hole saw arbors. Good balance and ergonomic grip. The battery recharges in 15-20minutes. I love this drill!

Compact and powerful
I really like this short and powerful drill driver. The brushless motor certainly is strong and the 2 supplied batteries (1.5AH) last a long time. I appreciate the LED work light. For most work, switching from high speed drilling and then to high torque screw-driving is effortless and effective. Perfect by itself for quick handyman chores but I'd pair it with an impact driver for heavy duty jobs. This tool package is a great intro to the DeWalt 20v Max system of cordless tools.

compact and powerful, DeWalt has another winner
With almost 40 years of residential home building under my belt it is nice to know I can still find and use a tool that surprises me at how well it will perform on a daily basis. This drill is more compact to fit in spots the old one would not, and the fact that it has more power is great. Whether you use this drill professionally or just around the house I guarantee you will be happy with its performance, long lasting charge the comfort of how this drill feels in your hand. DeWalt has another winner.

This a very good drill/driver.
I had a project that required cleaning the old paint and rust off a metal tool so that it could be repainted and stop the rust decay. After receiving the DCD 708 Drill/Driver I figured this would be a good test for this tool.
I used a wire wheel attachment . The Drill/Driver kept the wire wheel locked into the chuck dependably well through out the work. The tool never bogged down regardless of how much force I applied. The drill delivered respectful torque at all speeds. The drill has a variable speed trigger that is a must requirement for starting a drill bit into a steel or wood product.
The down side of this product is that the product description said this tool comes with TWO 1.5 Ah batteries, charger and carrying case. There was only ONE battery and NO CARRYING CASE! The case would be convenient for carrying the drill, charger and two batteries to a job site. The battery ran out of power after about 1.5 hours So, I had to switch over to a grinder with a cupped wire wheel to finish the job. The battery only took 45 minutes to charge up, but, if I had two batteries I could have continued this project with no interruptions.
Ideally this drill/driver would be an awesome tool with TWO 3.0 Ah batteries, charger and a carrying case. It would be difficult to explain to a client why you aren't working! " My batteries died and I'm waiting for them to charge up!"
The battery is 50% of the tool. If the battery won't hold a long charge or needs to be replaced in two years, the tool is a paperweight!!!!!

Nice cordless drill upgrade
I have a DeWalt DCD710 3/8 inch cordless drill driver and received the DeWalt DCD708 as a sample to test so I decided to do a comparison between the two. First off the 708 has a 1/2 inch chuck so you can use the 1/2 bits which is nice. It is slightly less in depth with a 1 inch depth versus a 1 1/8" inch in the 710. The 708 uses the 20 volt battery pack/system whereas the 710 is a 12 volt system - I didn't feel much difference between the two in normal operations but the 708 boasts 1650 max rpm to the 1500 on the 710. Both units have a light to assist you in drilling and there are positives/negatives to each. The light on the 710 activates when you depress the trigger and deactivates when you see release the trigger, the 708 activates the same way but stays on for around 17 seconds after you release the trigger so I'm not so sure on that. The light is located just above the trrigger in the 710 which cause there to be a shadow that hinders it's assisting but they smartly put the light on the base of the 708 angling up and so there is no shadow and the light helps very well when needed. I found an oddity in the 708 compated to the 710 - the speed switch is reversed! on the 708 slide backwards and speed 1, slide forward for speed 2 which is the opposite of the 710, no idea why the change. They also changed the color of the text from the nice DeWalt yellow to white and I find I like the yellow better than white. The 708 is slightly heavier than the 710 but feels great; they both do. Both drills came with the hanger attachment, so you can hang it from your belt, but the708 had issues in that the screw didn't want to go in further before it was snug to the unit - had to put a good amount of pressure and a really good screwdriver (so as to not accidently strip the screw to get it far enough in to be sorta snug, not sure what's up with that. Since I'm new to the 20volt system I did some testing and it does last longer, or at least I ran the 708 and the 710 side by side and ran out of charge in the 12v battery and started another with the 20v still on it's first. This is a review of the tool not the battery system/charger but will also mention the 20v system charger dimensions, width 5 3/4 vs 3 1/2, depth 4/12 vs 6, height 3 3/4 vs 4 3/4, and that they changed the status lighting a small amount (2 lights change state/flash to indicate status vs old system of one light flashing patterns to indicate status). Oh, the 708 is a bit bigger and slightly heavier than the 710 but still feels good and isn't a drill that will tire your arm out if you have to use it for extended times above your head like my DC989 will. So, overall, I like the new drill and consider it an upgrade based on the 1/2 inch chuck, better light, and extended usage time. I also expect it will have a bit more Oompf but hard to verify since both did drilling fine. Thanks and I hope you enjoy my review and thanks for letting me sample this tool.
