    Not my dream mower
Purchased for presumed better mulching than Toro Recycler. And it is a better munching mower. Comparing to Recycler:
    Better mulching.
    Quiet performance.
    Ease of start.
    Larger collection bag.
Huge ejection port to bag that can be closed by degree to provide more mulching or slightly more shredded bag debris

Longer design, Wheelbase is longer from to back and narrower side to side. While this allows for mowing closer to edges, I still require use of a trimmer in these areas.

Rear wheel drive. Perhaps necessary because of the longer design, Handling corners is more difficult and it is easier to pull up divots in lawn if ground is softer. Also when engaging engine or turning, with a bag that is filling, the front wheels can pop up and give uneven mowing.

SUMMARY: The engine is the best out there and mulching is great but performance suffers due to RWD. I would love a FWD design of this mower. In the meantime I am not sure it is worth the higher cost.

    Sweet Lady!
What a pleasure this machine is to use. Everything just seems to be built and setup right. Even the shipping container was a joy to open and unpack. Premium price for a well thought out and ergonomic lawn toy that makes work feel a lot less like work, I'll take it! CPO promotion extended the warranty for an extra year, bonus! Feeding her clean/fresh 93 Octane and full synthetic oil, fingers crossed I won't be needing the warranty.
Granted it's a new lawnmower, but it passed the high wet grass test, engine never sounded like it was pushing hard or struggling. The wet clipping colored the WHITE bag GREEN temporarily. A quick rinse with the hose washed it ALL out... One thing I unexpectedly found pleasing was the decks sides are straight, opposed to the more traditional round off/full circle decks. This feature allows for a more predictable cutting path when your running it along side any yard landscaping.
Free shipping and no Tax, helped ease the initial pain of the premium price. It's a Honda, so far no complaints...
Side note--> My old Toro mower housed a Honda engine, but setup and overall "feel" while cutting, just doesn't compare.

Mower has been flawless so far. Cuts perfectly even, mulches and bags very well. Was worried about the bail/controls setup, but it is comfortable, and feels very solid. The whole mower feels like it will last a long time.

    Honda HRX217HYA
Bought this to replace my 21 yr old MTD (Tecumseh 6.0) that still runs great but recently started burning oil. The Honda starts on 1st pull, runs great, has lots of options, and quick use features (except I wish it would adjust all wheels with one lever like the MTD.)
This model has the better transmission (hydrostatic) like the commercial models, the commercial grade GCV190 engine, and auto-choke. The self-propel moves fast which I like but it can be set slow if desired. The blade shuts off but the engine keeps running which is nice. It can be set to bag or varying degrees of mulch by moving a lever, no tubes or anything else to change out which is nice and fast. The handle folds up easily for storage, the oil is easy to replace, the air filter is easy to get to, and it doesn't require much maintenance.
I think it is about as loud as my old mower, it cuts good, and has good vacuum when bagging. I like the mower and hope it lasts as long as my MTD. My last mower was expensive when purchased in 1995 but lasted and is still going, I hope to get 21 or more years out of this one also.

    LOVE Honda and this mower!
I bought two of these mowers for my boys (8 and 10 years old). They both enjoy the profitability of mowing my lawn and hope to start a small neighborhood business this summer helping neighbors. My old mower was a Husqvarna with AWD and the same Honda 190 cc motor. It didn't have the RotoStop feature and did terrible at mulching. Because of the poor mulching, we always bagged and the kids had trouble getting it restarted while in the grass. My new mowers both started on the first pull and purred like kittens. They mulched extremely well to where I can see bagging will be unnecessary most of the time. The handle bars take some getting used to as you have to hold in two separate handle bars, one to keep the blade engaged and the other for the self propelled feature. If you let both go, the blade stops as designed, so it take some time to get used to only letting one go on turns while keeping the other fully engaged. I think it will be fine, it is just something we all need to get used to. I LOVE the hydrostatic "cruise control". It help immensely with younger kids as you can slow it down to let them really get the hang of following the lines and turning the mower. All in all, I am thrilled with my purchase and look forward to many many years of good use. I'm also hoping the "business" is successful so that I can begin the capital recovery as these things aren't cheap. That said, you get what you pay for and Honda didn't disappoint! CPO was a pleasure to deal with and you can't beat the deal with free shipping and no sales tax!

Well designed and worth the price,
I had a Snapper Ninja with the 160cc Briggs engine before this that struggled just a bit with Southeast Texas grass, humidity, and having to mow taller grass when the rains delay cutting for extended periods. This is my first Honda and the engine and overall design are very good. I like the composite deck though it isn't as light as I would have guessed. The self propelled components work as well or better than the Snapper. The blade engage and the self propelled controls are a little awkward compared to the Snapper but I think that will go away with use. If you let go of the safety handle, the engine still runs but the blade stops so you can walk away to pick up sticks or trash without having to restart the mower. Plenty of power to mulch even taller damp grass. Using the rear discharge without the bag for extra tall grass can be a bit trying. It gets clogged in the narrow shoot coming out the back. A standard side discharge can clog as well but it is easier to clear than this one. I do not use the bag at all so I can't say how it stacks up. Overall, I recommend it and I think you would have to be very picky not to be pleased with the purchase.
