NOVA chuck
I've recently taken up turning bowls on my 40 year old Rockwell lathe.
The NOVA chuck was a great addition to the lathe and has made holding the wood much easier to set up. I also got an adapter that allowed the chuck to be attached to the lathe. The chuck seems to be very heavy duty and operates smoothly and has a very tight uniform fit. Great quality.

A Great Chuck!
So far, I have found this chuck to be perfect for my purposes - turning Native American flutes. I purchased it based on the full line of accessories available and hope to purchase one or more of them soon. It's a good quality chuck at a decent price. I'm glad I bought it.

This chuck has smooth operation and holds well. Perfect for small bowl turning and some spindle work. It also is able to accept other size jaws. A very nice small chuck!

Just two problems
These chucks are the greatest lathe tool. Unfortunately this one came without literature enclosed in the box and it does not have the set screw to lock it to the lathe spindle like my first Nova G3.

I have a 6 in 1 wood lathe chuck that I got many years ago made in England. The internal or female thread is 3/4" x 16 tpi . I got a new lathe with the spindle size of 1" x 8 tpi. I need a coupler or insert that has a female thread to go from the lathe spindle of 1" x 8 tpi to the chuck with the 3/4 " x 16 tpi female thread so I can use the chuck on the new lathe. Do you have one of these inserts or couplings? The coupler or insert would have a female end 1" x 8 tpi to male end 3/4" x 16 tpi. That would screw it onto the lathe spindle and into the chuck. Thank you.

I have a 1 1/4"-8 tpi headstock.
Do I need to buy an insert?
Mark M on Dec 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes you need to buy that size insert. 1 1/4" x 8TPI. The inserts are sold separately, unless you buy the largest chuck Nova sells and comes with the insert. Follow the directions when installing the insert. Personally I'm not crazy about the small red carbon insert that is suppose to be inserted before the locking allen nut which locks the insert to the chuck. If you have a smaller headstock 1" X *TPI then those along with I believe 1 size smaller is available. Hope this helps
