Where's the blades?
So this works just fine, but can you provide some replacement blades that are viable options? Is their a dewalt specific blade to use? whats the deal?
I have to buy pinned blades at 5" and then clip them? thanks for making it over complicated

Works great for me.
This is my third scroll saw during my extended life span. My dad was a shop teacher and he had two old Craftsman saws with belt drive, crankshaft in an oil bath, and spring for blade tension to provide the upstroke. Only used pin-end blades that are a chore to change out. Still, that's what I and a lot of his 6th graders learned on. Much later, I bought an early Dremel saw with 3" long blades. That one was made of sheet metal and vibrates a lot. We saw a demo of the DeWalt at a Rockler store and fell in love with it about 20-years ago. We couldn't afford it then, but 2-years ago, Grizzly put the DeWalt, complete with stand and light on a very good sale and we ordered. I ran into some vision problems, so didn't use it much the first year, but now have a bunch of grand and great-grand kids, so I use it a lot to make jigsaw puzzles for them. I love the lack of vibration, the ease of changing blades, the ability to tension the blades, and (did I mention? the lack of vibration. I'm not crazy about the hold-down, so I seldom use it. Since the purchase, I've seen a couple new models from other brands, but they're about twice the price. They have a tilting arm, rather than a tilting table, but I haven't gotten into projects with a need for that yet. I certainly couldn't justify the price. I expect this DeWalt will outlast me and the kids will fight for it.

Easy to use!
I’ve had this scroll saw for a few months and I love it! I like how easy it is to change the blades, adjust the speed, and get projects situated on the cast top. Wish it came with a light already installed, but that’s easy to work around.

Saw was great until parts started wearing out.
I purchased this saw on 05/22/09. I only used the saw steady for about 5 to 6 years. Saw was great until parts wore out. I replaced the on/off switch about 1 year ago also. I do understand that parts do wear out and this wouldn't be a problem if saw could have been factory rebuilt. I was told by the Dewalt factory service people that the saw can't be factory rebuilt to stop the knocking or vibrating. I was also told that I could trade up, which means I give them my saw that has no value and I could purchase a brand new saw for regular retail price. If I knew that Dewalt makes disposable tools I would not have purchased. I now have a Dewalt DW788 boat anchor.

The best!!
I have owned this scroll saw for a little under a year. I had tried other scrolls saws and they really don’t even remotely measure up. This thing is like none other. Smooth as butter! Easy to change the blade. Good speed options and the tension settings are great! I felt so confident in this tool that I have been introducing each of my step kids how to use it by letting them design a project of their own and scroll it. Thankful to have it!

I use to have a cheap scroll saw. It made ok cuts, but I was only able to use pin blades. I wanted to ability to use pinless blades especially for the spiral blades. I saved up and bought this saw. I don't use it often, but I know it will last me for years, and I can count on it if I do need to make a precise cut! Do yourself a favor, don't buy a cheaper scrollsaw. Save a little extra, buy this one, and you will not regret it!

About the Best Scroll Saw at the Price
I am using this saw to replace an old Delta "C" arm saw. I tried a Porter Cable and a Craftsman saw, and returned them both. The blade attachment is easy to do; if you have magnetic flashlight on the stand the lower attachment is much easier. I love how I can tension the blade, note the setting, and re-tension the blade to the same spot after inserting the blade through a hole. The upper lift arm is a must. Too bad Dewalt doesn't have a hold up attachment for the arm, but a block of wood under the arm works just fine. The front to back movement of the blade is too much for my taste, but so far that is my only complaint and it doesn't keep the saw from doing a fine job. Great warranty that I hope I will never use.

Strong, stable, reliable Scroll Saw
This review comes after a year of use. This scrollsaw has to be far and away the best scroll saw value on the market. Almost no vibration through various kinds of material and projects and easy blade changes make this thing fun. The DW688 has taken every thing put to it and still keeps going.

I do a lot of fret work. Taking the blade loose to pass it through a hole and then re-attaching it has always been a long process... until I bought the DW788, that is! All I have to do is loosen the tension lever and turn a thumb screw. The blade stays attached at the bottom, and slides right back into place once I’ve passed it through a small hole in my workpiece. Then it’s just a turn or two of the thumb screw, the turning the tension lever back to the number I had it set on, and I’m back at cutting again! Love it! I also love the fact that the area underneath the table is open and not boxed in, so it’s easy to clean up. I rigged up a hose from my shop vac that connects to a 1” hose with a “Tee” and ran one side to the top and the other to the bottom. A few pvc insert fittings, hose clamps, and zip ties have made my saw nearly 100% dust free! And that’s really important to me, especially because I cut a lot of hardboard and MDF, which creates a powdery dust that covers everything...and is dangerous to breathe!

Will this saw ship to Singapore?
Simon on Jun 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Cpo does not ship outside of the USA. Please contact Dewalt directly for more shipping options. 800-433-9258
I understand the overall length of the saw is approximately 29". This would include the plate which sticks out over the base. I need to know the length of the base to see if it will fit on my 24" deep work bench. Thank you...
marti on Feb 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: From stem to stern the saw is 33" overall. The base is 25.5" long and
10.5" wide. It's a great saw, so if you have to bolt it to a piece of
plywood and then screw that to the bench it would do you well.
Does this include the table ?
A shopper on Dec 16, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Model DW788 will not include the stand. The model number for the stand is DW7880. The link to view the product is below:
Is this saw a type 1 or 2?
Brenda L on Apr 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This model will be the type 2, manufactured in Taiwan.
Does if have the ability to use spiral blade to cut in any direction?
paul M on Jan 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I haven't tried to use a spiral blade. If they are available for this saw I am sure it would work. By using the double parking technique or the u turn moves you can turn/saw in any direction. If you can get a spiral blade to fit the saw
you should have no problem.
Is there a port to connect to dust collector?
N/A on Aug 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, this tool does not included a dust port
Can you use jeweler's saw blades so you can cut through metal like silver and brass? Can it handle very small blades?
Liz the metalsmith on Jul 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The DeWalt DW788 uses "plain end" or "straight" type blades.
Will the Dewalt scroll saw fit my current stand (Sears/Craftsman contractor series 20 variable speed saw) which I have on hand now? I am wanting to replace my current scroll saw that I mentioned with the Dewalt dw788 will it fit my stand
Marty on Oct 18, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, we are unable to confirm your current scroll saw stands compatibility. Our best advise would be to use the dimensions of Dewalt's scroll saw stand and compare those dimensions to your scroll saw stand. The dimensions for Dewalt's stand is:
34.2 x 5.9 x 4.1 inches (L x W x H)
does this machine use both types of blades?
Floyd on Oct 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The DeWalt DW788 uses "plain end" or "straight" type blades.
just assembling the saw, and can't get the table to fully insert on the pin. It looks like shy about 2 mm so cant the screws into the table bottom. The pin looks like there is a band ot material at the base end which wasn't shaved off and holds the table out. Ideas ? please
