very durable product
I work for a company that has a weld and fab shop and performs field work. i am one of the 40 road techs. The company was buying Dewalt grinders and we were burning them up at a rate of 10 per week. on my truck i would go thru 2 per month. we switched to the Hitachi grinders and i have had mine for 3 years now and the shop went from 10 per week to maybe 1 per month. i will never buy another brand of grinder.

I've had this grinder for less than a month and haven't used it for much yet, so I have no opinion re: durability, reliability, etc. The build does seem "tank-like." What's great about it is the variable speeds, which make it useful for far more than the usual cutting and grinding. It's also crazy powerful (13 amps) and doesn't bog down under load. The VS circuitry seems to be an RPM sensory feedback loop, so it adjusts torque under load to maintain RPM. What I like least is how heavy it is. You MUST use both hands and keep it between your hips and shoulders or it will wear you out quick. The motor housing is also the main "handle," of course, and it's so fat it's not easy to hold. People with small hands should avoid this grinder.
