good weight balance with keyless chuck
I purchased the Hitachi D10VH2 corded drill to replace my 40 year old Craftsman that finally gave up. I like a corded drill for constant use such as portable grinding and drilling many screws at a time where a cordless battery would not last. This Hitachi drill has performed very well so far for me and was priced at ~$40 at Lowes. Based on the current performance I would buy this drill again.

The only good feature is this drill has a high speed. But, it gets very hot and start to smoke in about 10 minutes of continue using. I am planning to returning it. I like Hitachi brand, so hopefully I may find another model.

Excellent So Far
Keyless chuck is convenient. Lock-on button is useful. Good grip and small size. Variable speed dial may be handy. Has all the features a drill should.

Good product but ?
There is a place for a handle to screw into the sides for better support by the user. The product did not come with that handle which in many times, would be useful to have. I think the extra handle should be included with the drill, even if there is an additional price or increased price to include it. Holding the drill , when in use, the heat from the cooling fan blows directly on one's hand and this can get rather hot, so that side handle would prevent this from happening.

I really like this drill
The reason I gave it 4 stars is only because if you run it with no load meaning have no bit in the chuck and push the switch on in either direction I hear a sort of rattle sound. It sounds like gear lash rattle and if I turn the chuck by hand I feel the gear lash. It's not excessive and I have felt this is circular saws.

If you run the drill and apply just a bit of pressure on the chuck the rattle stops in either direction. I'm not sure if it's grease it needs or just it's normal gear lash .

Trust me, I looked at all the 3/8" corded drills out there and for the price it's the only one I felt was well designed and well thought out .

I just got it today and have not had the chance to use it yet I do like every feature it has . The Chuck is all metal and works well . The variable speed is great it responds very well . The trigger dial works great and can be locked in with the lock button at the speed you set the dial to.
